March
A lot has happened in the last month. Well, not so much in the first week where my host family and I managed to catch a nasty bug. But after recovering from that, I was off to Schladming for a Rotary ski camp. Almost all the Rotary Exchange students currently in Austria were there and I met a lot of new people from a lot of different countries.
One afternoon, we hired toboggans and took the gondola to the top of the mountain, where we then sled down. It was amazing and I quickly learnt that it’s always better to make sure your hair isn’t out before you go down. Unfortunately I didn’t work that out until after the first run down the mountain and my hair was already packed with snow and frozen. Made for some interesting photos.
I had a great time in Schladming although a week just didn’t seem long enough and I can happily say that I can ski now, just not very well.
The following Saturday, I went to the theatre to with Sophie, my host sister. My host family had given me two tickets to Westside Story for my birthday. Luckily for me, the songs were in English, even though the dialogue was in German, so it was a lot easier fr me to follw and I had a great time with Sophie. My German has improved a lot since I first got here, although I still only understand a little. German grammar is so confusing.
I was also lucky enough to go and see Mika in Vienna, a few days ago. I can honestly say, I wasn’t a huge fan of Mika before, but the concert was amazing. One of my friends got the tickets from her host family and she stayed the night with me. It was a lot of fun showing her around Baden and Vienna before the concert and I am glad to say, I didn’t get us lost even though I had never been to Vienna without a guide.
That’s all for this month.
Later
Jess
